The term is shortened from mushin-no-shin, a Zen expression meaning the mind without mind, also referred to as the state of "no-mindness". That is, a mind not fixed or occupied by
thought or emotion and thus open to everything.
In the practice of Acupuncture and East Asian Medicine (EAM) a practitioner can have no preconceived thoughts or opinions of a patient’s condition based upon a prior diagnosis, the patient's race, religion, ethnicity, and sexual orientation. Each patient
must be viewed in their entirety without focusing on a
single piece of information or symptom presentation.
Mushin simply means that your mind is not fixed on any emotions or judgments with regards to the patient's care in our clinic.
Zanshin is a state of presence.
It is being aware of your surroundings and being
present in every moment. In essence, it’s mindfulness.
Mindfulness is essential to patient-driven healthcare.
Zanshin as applied in the ZenDen clinic means the
practitioner's focus is solely on the patient during their
clinic visit and acupuncture treatment.
Paying attention to every action we take during the patient’s treatment is important, as being mindful has been shown to increase productivity during the clinic visit for the patient and practitioner. Emotional intelligence is enhanced through a true caring and giving experience, and this enhances the happiness
of both the patient and practitioner.
When changing and enabling a patient’s health to improve, this philosophy allows taking pleasure in removing human suffering, which can bring so much joy that it can help quiet much of the unnecessary mental stress and overall reduce the underlying presence of a prior diagnosis. The focus of mindfulness is essential to designing a proper and effective acupuncture treatment.
Satori is the natural state of the mind. It is total harmony between the body and mind, which is the ultimate goal of participating in the treatment experience offered by the ZenDen.
Each treatment experience at the ZenDen is the culmination of thousands of years of acupuncture practice. The Yellow Emperor of China’s compendium of acupuncture and herbal medicine was written more than 4000 years ago and is still the basis for designing acupuncture and herbal treatments in the 21st Century.
The goal of Satori as defined by the ZenDen is to bring the body in harmony with nature and calm the mind, causing the total harmony of the body and the mind of each patient.
The staff participates in mediation on each of these important Zen practices before the clinic opens. This promotes the proper focus of each clinic session and provides guidance before beginning each day. The Zen Buddhist principles of Mushin, Zanshin,
and Satori will help us to give you the best possible
outcome for your treatments.
Herbs were commonly used before western pharmaceuticals were introduced. Treating and preventing medical conditions with herbs is naturally safe,
as an overdose would cause irritation
or nausea instead of a visit to the emergency room.
We specialize in non-narcotic practices in healing pain such as headaches, chronic pain, joint pain, and back pain. We use an array of proven methods such as trigger point injections, chiropractic care, and rehabilitation. Our goal is to treat and relieve your pain permanently instead
of using pharmaceuticals for
temporary relief.
Homeopathy treatment is to locate the root of your health issues and reverse them naturally. Homeopathy can treat many chronic and acute diseases, rather than managing or suppressing them.
Our doctors are able to provide a deeper healing of mental, emotional,
and physical complaints.
